program notes:
This composition draws creative inspiration from a specific image: the discovery of an object from the past whose original function is unknown. It can be explored in an attempt to grasp it, but this understanding can only be partial. Observing this object, one finds connections and congruences, but as exploration continues, presumed meanings are betrayed, disappearing beneath the patina of time and rust. Erosion and rust, thus, bestow upon the object a new value, a mutable new reality.
This concept was developed in the composition not only through musical material but also and above all through the organization of a "corroded form." The structure of the piece was elaborated first, and then structural fractures were introduced to deviate its development, causing new unpredictable evolutions.
The compositional research was entirely centered on this particular sensation of the incomprehensible, the incommunicable, a concept that I began to appreciate while reading the books of Stanislaw Lem, where this idea is expressed, in my opinion, in the most beautiful and interesting way.
